Belmont Senior Services, Inc. is a 501 (C)
3 non-profit organization that began in 1972 to
provide
support services to persons 60 years of age and older who reside in Belmont
County. These services include Transportation, Personal Care, Homemaking,
Home Delivered Meals (meals on wheels), Congregate Meals, and for
socialization, Belmont Senior Services operates 10 Senior Centers scattered
across the county. It is through provision of these services that the
organization strives to prevent, or at least postpone, for as long as
possible, nursing home placement of Belmont County’s frail elderly. While Belmont County is a very rural county located in the Appalachian
region, it has the distinction of having the second highest percentage of
elderly population in the State of Ohio, with 18.2 % of its residents over
65 years of age. The National average is only 12.1%.|
Nutrition Services The Nutrition department has two separate programs that are intended to
address all the nutrition challenges one might face in his or her senior
years. Congregate Meals - Congregate meals are served in a community setting at the local senior center. The meals are freshly prepared and served at appropriate temperatures. Transportation is provided to the meal site. Home Delivered Meals - Home delivered meals are intended for those who are homebound. The homebound client is unable to leave home unassisted, and is unable to utilize the transportation provided to congregate meal sites. Additionally, the home delivered meals client lives alone, or lives with someone who is not able to shop for, and prepare meals. |
Transportation Services Belmont Senior
Services Transportation Program provides both Medical Transportation and
Non-Medical Transportation. Transportation to Medical Appointments - Belmont Senior Services will transport persons 60 years and older to medical appointments such as physician's offices, diagnostic tests, and prescribed treatments. Non-Medical transportation - The local senior centers provide transportation to the senior centers, to grocery stores for nutrition shop - ping, and transportation to various planned activities. |
Home Care The Home Care Department at Belmont Senior
Services serves clients who have a variety of needs. Personal
Care Aids help the client take care of his or her personal
needs such as bathing and grooming. Homemakers provide a variety of
supportive services that include, but are not limited to: light
housekeeping, errands, shopping, and laundry.
